Introduction:

The Alleluia Hymn, known as zūmmārā (from the Syriac root zmar, meaning "be sing." "to praise") follows the reading from the Epistle. A set of three alleluias is sung with psalm verses and Trinitarian doxology. The psalm verses vary according to the feast. The zūmmārā in this CD uses the second verse from psalm 45. "a Nuptial Ode” that is often reinterpreted in the Catholic tradition as referring to the relationship between Christ and his bride, the Church. The gospel procession takes place at the end of this hymn.

Lyrics of the song

Alleluia, sing alleluia; alleluia, alleluia.

My heart is stirred by a noble theme
As I sing my ode to the King;
My tongue is the pen of a nimble scribe (Alleluia)

Glory be to the Father,
To the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning
Let it be for ever. Amen. (Alleluia)
