Notes

Trilingual Syro Malabar Qurbana at Heilig-KIrche (Holy Cross Church), Erlangen, Germany. 30 July 2017. Celebrant: Dr. Joseph J. Palackal, CMI. Co-celebrants: Fr. John Adapoor and Fr. Joseph Pathil.
Special thanks to Gunter Haefele for sharing his recording and granting permission to post it on this channel.

Note:The celebration of this Qurbana was a part of a Christian Festival of India at the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche (Holy Cross Church) at Erlangen in Germany. Dr. Rani Palackal Schmenger ( my sister) and her friends volunteered to organize the event with the help of the Parish community under the leadership of Fr. John Adapoor and the Pallotine fathers who serve the Holy Cross Parish. The goal was to give the parishioners the experience of an Eastern-rite mass and information on the Christian dimension of India. Dr. Rani said that the location had a particular significance to her. Years ago, when Rani came to Germany for medical studies, this was the Parish that helped her to learn how to live in Germany. Fr. Adapoor, who was born and raised in Kerala, India, agreed to the idea of introducing a few Syriac chants in the liturgy. This liturgy was an all-new experience to the parishioners. Also, this was the first time the sound of the Syriac language and Syriac melodies echoed inside the Holy Cross Church. Fr. Joseph Pathil, who is currently doing his doctoral studies in Austria, helped with the logistics of the liturgy. Gunter Haefele, a long time patient of Dr. Rani, enthusiastically volunteered to document the event. We are immensely grateful to Haefele for his time and time and for granting permission to post this one our channel. The singers, most of them Germans, told me later that they enjoyed singing Syriac chants.
