 Bishop Mar Thomas Tharayil, Auxiliary Bishop of the Eparchy of Changanacherry, is one of the very few bishops who feel comfortable with incorporating Syriac chants into the solemn celebration of Qurbana in Malayalam. Bishop Tharayil took the initiative to learn the language and the music.....

AP 212 - Lak alaha/daivame njangal ange vazhthunnu. Translation of the Latin hymn "Te Deum".

The history of the famous Latin chant, Te Deum ("To You O Lord), spans several centuries, many continents and cultures. The chant reached the St. Thomas Catholics in Kerala through the Portuguese missionaries in the sixteenth century. It is possible that the missionaries, who accompanied Vasco de Gama on his second trip to India in 1502, sang this hymn when they landed on the shores of Kerala, in gratitude for a safe journey.......

Christian Musicological Society of India is an international forum for interdisciplinary research, discussion, and dissemination of knowledge, on the music, art and dance of about thirty million Christians in India, who belong to a diverse set of communities and linguistic groups and follow a variety of liturgical traditions some of which date back to the early Christian era. Founded in 1999 by Dr. Joseph J. Palackal CMI, the Society hopes that such researches will draw attention to the lesser known aspects of India in connection with the rest of the world.
